Dayton, Ohio is known as the birthplace of aviation. It is also one of the busiest crossroads in the country where two major interstates meet and that makes it an easily accessible and popular tourist attraction. You can get hotels Dayton has available in the downtown portion of the town, or you can choose accommodations in other parts of town near area attractions. No matter what you need, you can find it in hotels Dayton has ready for visitors.

Dayton is the sixth largest city in the state and lies within 500 miles of a majority of the manufacturing capacity of the country. This makes it a center of economics and industry and it also plays significant roles in engineering research, aerospace and other technological and industrial areas. It has been ranked as one of the best places in the country for college graduates to find a successful job. The city is most well known, however, for its connection to aviation.

Dayton was home to the fathers of flight, Orville and Wilbur Wright. They lived in the city when they created planes in their 1903 shop. They finalized their airplane and tested its limits just east of the city at the Huffman Prairie Flying Field. You can view that plane at the Carillion Historical Park. This city is not only considered the origin of aviation, but it has also been titled a National Aviation Heritage Area. It has a lively aviation history and not only was the first airplane formed here, but the initial military air base lies in the city and the area dominated aircraft production between the two World Wars.

The National Museum of the U.S. Air Force is the most popular free tourist location in the state. This museum highlights key moments in military flight within its many different galleries. You can see equipment, uniforms and thousands of other artifacts pertaining to military aviation. The National Aviation Hall of Fame displays information on the pioneers of flight that came from Dayton as well as other areas all around the world. The most exciting aspects of aviation are displayed in this museum with stories from the Wright Brothers to the space age.

The Dayton Aviation Heritage National Park celebrates the exceptional innovation of its residents in the creation of aviation. This park has four different units in the city including one dedicated to the Wright Brothers and the historic Huffman Prairie Flying Field.

If you are interested in aviation and its rich history, there is plenty to see and do in this city. However, there are other things to do in the area as well. The Aullwood Center and Farm gives you a chance to take in the natural beauty of the area. This 350-acre sanctuary is a working organic farm with walking trails, ponds, woods, meadows and much more. The education center on the grounds has hands-on exhibits in two different rooms and natural resources in six themed classrooms. This structure also has vegetable gardens, colorful herbs and many other crops.

If you enjoy shopping, you will not leave this city disappointed. The area has many large shopping malls filled with department stores and specialty boutiques that are bound to have just what you are looking for. You can shop for the latest trendy clothes and shoes, unique souvenirs to take home, locally made items and plenty more. The Corners at the Mall is one of the largest malls in the area along with the Dayton Mall, which has 160 stores including large chain stores like Sears and JC Penney. If you prefer unique shopping experiences, the Oregon Historic District, which is the oldest neighborhood in the city, has a lovely charm along with diverse shops.

Visitors can also find a wide variety of restaurants with different menus and price ranges. It is easy to find fine-dining options as well as family friendly favorites. If you enjoy Italian, Mexican, finger foods, or any other particular type of food, you can find a restaurant to satisfy your tastes. Alex's is a casual, comfortable restaurant with an extensive American menu while Don Pablos has authentic Mexican surroundings for a fun and festive experience.

Dayton is a wonderful city filled with opportunities for business professionals and tourists, especially those with any interest in aviation. There is enough variety in the attractions, restaurants and shopping areas to satisfy any visitor.
